I read this book and it genuinely piqued my interest. Especially when you learn that the early scribes were under pain of death in theri transcriptions efforts to copy perfectly every character ot the text.

Older ones here, what do you remember being told about 1975 ???
by run dont walk in.
i was just a little kid when the 1975 thing came about, didn't pay much attention to it, after it was over, my parents told me it was just some people being over anxious, and being about 8 at the time i believed it, now when you research you find some amazing articles.
what do you remember being told about 1975 as the year got closer ?

I remember that ancient history all too well...
I was in High school back in the early 70s, my dad was an elder and my sisters were both full time pioneers, and their husbands elders also; one a PO. 1975 was the reference date of which our lives were worked around. The first time it was discussed ( that I remember anyway) was at the 1969 International Assembly .My sisters PO husband and his "big shot" connections at Bethel, all thought they had a direct line to the Universe power grid (Hah!) Of course, we thought we had first class tickets (Hah!) or at least front row seats on that "barge" to the new world!!
I was graduating high school in 1974, and approached my father about quiting school in my junior year. ( I really was a good boy and wanted to pioneer to try and make a difference before the end came!) I reasoned with my father that since the end is so close, why should I finish high sschool when I could be in the preaching work full time? The emphatic answer was NO! Dad had the coolest head of the bunch and insisted I fiinish high school, which I did, only to pioneer after graduating!
...and by the by, the "END" did come for me (chuckle) in a way I never dreamed would happen!

I came to this Forum by accident one afternoon when I was bored at work. I was running out of topics to type into the search engine on my office computer. I stumbled in this website and was skeptical what I would find .
I have not been a JW for some 20 odd years. It was a very painful time for me while I broke away---it was not easy. Back in the early 80s there were no support groups like this forum available ( at least none that I knew of).
Although I have successfully and securely built a new life for myself, I have never encountered any other X JWs along the way. I entered this website out of curiousity. When I realized it was all people from across the globe who all shared the same experiences as me I was very excited ; mainly to see so many people reaching out. As I read the posts and related to so many, I decided that after all these years, there was much that I could offer in terms of encouragement and support, and that my experiences were not so different from others. The fog lifted for me many years ago and my negative experiences from being raised a JW are in my past. So for me, I can emotionaly afford to take such a secure "distanced" position.
Although I am still fairly new to this forum, I feel a certain kinship to the people who post here. We have all shared such a unique experience, I do believe that we encourage each other. Will I continue to post here? I do not know. As a rule, I do not post at any other forums; or enter chat rooms. Having 3 small children and a full time job keeps me busy. But I have come to feel very much among friends here( no pun intended), and am enjoying the camaraderie that this forum connection brings.

Out of the mist
by Greenpalmtreestillmine ini posted here just a little back in january of 2001. i scrambled out of here right quick then since i was still active and fearful of so many things.
i am inactive but not exactly a non jw yet.
i am a conservative person and still believe that some of the teachings of jws are good though i do not agree with everything that's for sure!

Hi Sabrina ( your moniker is a great mental image)
Welcome to the forum. I was also raised in the Truth, and left many years ago. If you are still in, that is ok. There are many supportive people here, and they have all , at one time or another, experienced the pain and insecurity of life "on the edge " or "out" of the religion.
Remember, for those of us raised in that faith, it takes time to learn to think differently. If nothing else, your time here will prove to you that life can and will be very rewarding on the outside.
regards

Coincidences,What Do You Think?
by Blueblades inrecently, two posters, happy out and tyydyy posted topics that mirrored my exact recent experiences.. happy out's car crash was my experience this past thursday morning.i was hit by two tractor trailers on the njtpk.the airbag did not deploy enabling me to steer clear of on -coming traffic as i was spun around.
they made lane changes and fish-tailed swiping me from one lane to the next,it had been raining and the roadway surface was slick.. i ended up facing sideways, drivers side facing on-coming traffic at 60 mph and higher, front end into the wall divider.i quickly reversed myself and moved to the far right lane shoulder, thankful that the car was able to move after the front end hit the wall.the state troopers said this happens a lot and the trailers don't even realize that they side-wiped someone.they were long gone,no injuries to anyone else,no other collisions invovled.i walk away with out a scratch, front end damage to the car will be repaired,i was shaken up to say the least and thought this was it for me.. this was exactly one week after my brother died at the same time of morning,9:20 am.coincidence??
?i mentioned this to happy out in his post.. then, tyydyy posts that he finds his brother after 22 years.this two was my experience as i told him in his post.one of my sisters found me this past week, after twenty-something years which lead to finding four of my six sisters, still looking for the other two.coincidences???.

I am glad to hear you survived and are OK. Near misses, who knows? It sounds like you are very lucky to still be posting here.
It is always nice to hear of a happy coincidence.

Why does the society try to keep the R&F so busy?
by Flowerpetal ini was thinking this morning on some things, and the story/series on hbo currently, carnivale, is showing the not so nice side of humanity.
we all have our dark side.
everybody in this world has one, i believe.

THEY'VE DONE IT!!!! The WBTS set a new date!
by dmouse inthe latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.
ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.
but does that mean that the big a isn't near?
-
franklin J
It sounds like the WTBTS is dangling a carrot for a new "incoming " generation of " Jehovahs Great flock.
...funny , for those of use secure enough and far enough away to laugh; tragic for those who actually might take all this seriously.

my heart hurts.
by flower inwell i have been feeling a bit like crap lately.
work has been very stressful and my attempts to make new friends outside of the jw's have been mostly futile.
the people i work with are immature and are more interested in the latest office gossip and whose doing what than anything else.

flower,
As you can see, you are not alone. We have all been there. It does get better. Do not give up!

I think we are all just a little dysfunctional--and so what? I think it is healthy for us to realize that "life happens" and no one is perfect. Our varied experiences make us who we are---all different.
I always thought of my family and our JW experiences as something out of a Tennesse Williams novel, set on Long Island rather than the deep south. And my wifes family--"The Munsters"---(she is the "normal" cousin Marilyn, of course) ; and the two of us with no religious common ground, accept the situation and get on with our relationship.
I do believe it is our differences which make us interesting.
